About The Artwork
Tribute to mighty Aphrodite on the seashore with her children. From left to right: Hermaphrodites, Priapus, Iakkhos, Eros, Himeros, Pothos, Anteros, Harmonía, Peitho, Deimos and Phobos. Aphrodite had many children. At first, she was married to the god Hephaestus. However, she had no offspring with him. She may have had up to 16 children. One of Aphrodite's most celebrated sons was Eros. Hermaphroditus was born from her relationship with Hermes. Harmonía was born from her relationship with Ares and she was the deity that represented love and order. Príapo, was born from her relationship with Dionisios. In addition, others such as Hymenaeus or the Deimos and Phobos twins, are also famous and lend their names to the two natural satellites of Mars.
