Benediction, Missionaries of Charity Drawing

I was living in Calcutta, India when I made this small ink painting. Earlier that day I went to Bose Road where the Sisters have their house and I walked in during their hour of benediction, a time of deep prayer and fellowship with God. The sisters were assembled, kneeling on the stone floor in front of the carved wooden sculpture of Jesus on the cross. This took place at a time in my own spiritual journey when I happened to be challenging my Catholic roots and upbringing. I returned to my Aunt's apartment and I made this drawing quietly in her study. As I worked, I could hear the Muslim call to prayer sounding on the speakers along the road outside.
