This flower is the source of one of the most striking Japanese paints - urenai. The resulting color of deep crimson color was more valuable than gold. On the Great Silk Road Benibana came to China, and from there in the seventh century to Japan. Judicial officials painted their clothes in red and crimson colors thanks to this flower. Multilayer silk kimonos were valued for their brightness.
