About The Artwork

I draw in my sketchbook every day, often from photographs I've come across in magazines or books or photographs of my own. This particular photo was from the Hulton Archive, which suggests, wrongly, that Hulton took the photograph, which is like saying the Louvre painted the Mona Lisa. Never mind. It was there for me to look at and get inspiration from, which I did. I remember something Cartier-Bresson said, that photographs capture something that is in the process of disappearing (or something like that). Colette was old here, writing about her life when young; her youth had disappeared except in her stories, and she was at work preserving them, in bed.
