Dark Days no.1 Drawing

Dark Days is a project born out of lockdown. On 24th March 2020, The UK Government announced it’s isolation measures in response of the Covid-19 crisis. The message was simple, ‘Stay at Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives’. Everyday we were updated at 5pm in the ‘Daily Briefing’ where a collection of politicians, scientists and clinicians led us through a selection of slides made up of graphs and charts, of tests and deaths. For 91 days, until exactly 13 weeks later on Tuesday 23rd June our lives were measured by these graphs moving first swiftly upwards, then stabilising and heading downwards, painfully slowly. These drawings are a response to these charts, to the conflict between defined boundaries and facts and the invisible, elusive virus silently spreading between us. This series is limited to 13 drawings at this size. One for each week of the lockdown.
