About The Artwork
I find horses among the most noblest of animals and yet, while drawing them, you can develop a very personal relationship with these animals. Besides 'nobility', 'grace' and 'elegance' (beautiful characteristics when found in humans too), horses symbolize 'agility' and 'power', elements in life that can make the difference between success and failure, in any undertaking. I hope that the viewer will feel both relaxed and energized while viewing this horse, obviously eating (and taking its time), but ready at any moment to get out of there. I love graphite as it enables me to express both superficiality (in fine lines) as well as depth (in shades), with a little change in pressure. The style is kept figurative and realist with at the same time space for our imagination for 'fill in the gaps'.

I lived in Tamilnadu for almost 15 years, my (late) wife Jansi is Tamilian, our twins for 50%. Tamil is the language of nearly 70 million people in and outside India. Tamil is the language of poets, its verses are well-known across many borders and there isn't an Indian state that produces as many new songs every year as Tamilnadu does. In short, when thinking about a name for my art enterprise, கலை ('art') immediately came to my mind. I draw and paint since a small age, but only since 2002 I have been taking it more seriously. When Jansi died in 2014 I was down and out for a year, but in 2015 while putting myself and our twins together again, my art work started to take me on a strong flight to where I am now, where I draw and paint so much that I dare call myself an artist.
