About The Artwork
Ergot or Claviceps purpurea is a cereal fungus which causes hallucinations through mycotoxicosis. It is thought to be the cause of mass psychosis events such as witch trials, perhaps the miythical Kykeon which was used for the rites in Ancient Greece associated with the Elusinian Mystery Cults, and was used to first isolate Lysergic acid diethylamide.
