About The Artwork

EXPECTATION This piece seek to address a global issue surrounding Womanhood. Societies in the world over mostly expect so much from a woman, forgetting the fact that she has her expectations in return. The most demeaning expectation of a women, make no mistake.. Expectation of women have changed for the better .. women may need love roses and romantic dinners, but what she really needs from her man is surprising.. The woman is expected to be a vital channel in procreating-she carries live in her womb, she is expected to be a mother, a caregiver, a teacher, a doctor, a cook, a wife and a lover. There is no doubt, way too much is expected of her in the world over, yet she is strong enough to bear it all while her expectations are so limited and simple like this art piece; all she want are the simplest things of life. Give her Love, Care and Attention. The color yellow in this piece reflects a sign of hope, just like a woman expecting the arrival of her man; yellow ribbon are used as a symbol to welcome love ones. The woman does her best to meet societal expectations, the world should also be kind to her.

Omoyeni Arogunmati is an award-winning visual artist born in Nigeria, She is currently Blkarthouse Artist Advisory Board Member and also WO Foundation member. Her love for art began at a young age, this encouraged her to study Fine Art at the Polytechnic Of Ibadan, Nigeria. Omoyeni expresses her thoughts and feelings through a series of identical portraits painted in an impressionist style with varied degrees of abstraction. Her passions expose fundamental human feelings, exploits, and events, both exterior and intimate. She concentrates on the representation of human facial gestures through abstraction and simplification, making works that reference both impressionism and abstract art trends. The degree of abstraction changes only slightly from painting to painting, which has been a source of contention because it prevents visual conformity. Short and long brush and palette knife strokes filled with a mass dollop of oil or acrylic paint applied on canvas are featured in her work. This technique gives a layered impression and textured look. She uses only a few shades of color, paints a large area with one bright main color, and then emphasizes it with smaller highlights of other primary colors. Her whole palette is composed of black and raw color blends, with the white of her canvas serving as a contrast to the dark tones,One simple thing like the eyes and undefined nose and mouth with out pupils. Omoyeni's works follow the trends of Carlos Delgado's "Faces of the System" collection, displaying comparable expressions in various facial moods. They are the emotional expression of her inspiration and experiences. She has established projected work collections, which are represented by a number of art galleries both at home and abroad and can be found in private collections. She hopes that her work will bring light and relief to others, as she believes that art should be used to spread positivity in all forms.
