About The Artwork

"Garish: Gotta Light?", 2016; Ink, Acrylic, and Spray Paint on Canvas; 16" x 20" Men are primal beings in many ways. It is arguable that the testosterone within us supersedes any rational thought when presented with a more primal, sexual yearning. I recently found an image of two models smoking, and as I was working on it, looked deeper into context. The smell of cigarettes (along with the lung cancer) is often seen as repugnant, but when we SEE the image, we equate it with sexuality (oral fixation much?) Not only that, but from my experiences in the acting and modeling world, the women who are often depicted as models can be unhealthy and unkind. So another instance of visual attraction being counter to actual attraction. Art is an illusion, and visual attractiveness is a lie. But it's a pretty lie.
