About The Artwork

The labyrinth in the shape of the brains symbolizes the solid paths and patterns of behavior and thought. It's the way the scientists think our brains are formed by learning and experience, there are links between established our brain cells and repeatedly and these connections are in similar situations (our development) firmly until it fixed 'paths' are our brains to deal with these conditions. On the one hand, these pathways support (your experience, learned) on the other hand these paths may take the form of a labyrinth from which escape is difficult. The crane dance is a symbol of the free mind to escape from the labyrinth. In the symbolism of the crane dance is associated with the female perspective of the labyrinth: the dance of life through the labyrinth and thus a celebration of life

Inspired by Chinese drawings, different cultures, myths, fairy tales and science of time, space, brain and awareness. What is time and space? What fascinated me is that, on the one hand, the ancient cultures have symbols like this, like the Chinese dragon for the new era. On the other hand, science can explain more and more of time and space. In this collection, I want to combine in art. This interest in time and space has arisen during my search for color. What fascinated me is that color is like motion or vibration, and that you can perceive it with your eyes and experience it as a color. To make such a vibration, you need time and space. But what is time and space exactly? I was born in Curaçao from a Dutch mother and Surinamese father. When I was seven, I moved to The Netherlands. At that time, you had different groups and each had their own dress code. That's why I wanted to design my own style in clothes and I'm following the fashion design program at the Hoge School for the Arts in Arnhem (ArteZ). During the training, however, I discovered that the fashion world was not really something for me. The school was a great experience and I graduated and obtained my diploma in 1992, in the same year and class as, among other things, the famous duo Victor & Rolf. After my studies, I worked for a while as a freelancer in graphic work and webdesign on Curacao and in the Netherlands. In recent years, I worked as an artist in Haarlem and I fully embarked on drawing and painting.
