Visual artist working in multimedia northern irish.Artist StatementI first became fascinated by light through my practice whilst investigating the notion of 'Infinity', and natural phenomena and the laws which govern them. I became completely captivated with the notion that earthy phenomena may provide the most accessible descriptions of phenomena contained in the wider or parallel universes, perhaps not providing answers, but giving clues as to how our questioning could be refined.Light in many ways is an unquatififable substance yet it is the very essence of our existence. Advances in technology mean we can harness many of its inherent qualities, allowing us to manipulate, transform, translate and transport it over infinite distances. Much of my own observation and experimentation with light had been focused on the unique relationship it has with limitless substances which make up and are part of are everyday lives. My intention is to capture that instant which may only be comparable to retinal memory. These endlessly changing and alternating light drawings weave through our daily consciousness and resonate through having profound effect on our physical aesthetic consciousness.I have began to using water and gels with their de-fractional relationship with light adding a new dimension to the investigation of surface tension and cohesive forces. I am investigating structure and experimenting with gelatin and plastics, and have began to explore the notion of temporary or time based 'structure' in liquids, solids, semisolids, air pockets and membranes. My current practice can be split into two groups which could be described as highly 'controlled' and 'uncontrollable' environments through which I can investigate naturally occurring elements of surface tension and fluid dynamics. Through this work the opportunity comes to construct temporary environments and chambers. These 'controlled' environments allow tangible intimate human interaction with surface tension playing with various films, membranes, pockets of air and liquid and all the in-betweens. Although the study of physical laws that govern live on earth may not applicable other universe's and the journey from the intimate to the infinite maybe an ambitious task, the work created has a strange dualism suggesting both organic and cosmic origins.
