Contact us.Megan Harmer is an Australian contemporary artist whose practice encompasses painting, drawing and sculpture. Drawing on nature, travel, personal experience and symbolism, her work explores the relationship between visual form, emotion and the imagination.
Born in Redcliffe, Queensland, Megan began studying Visual Art at Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, at the age of 16. Her professional creative career began at 20, when she was commissioned to create original designs for surfboards destined for Japan. This early experience developed into a career spanning graphic design, art direction, advertising and marketing, alongside the continuing development of her studio practice.
Colour, expressive line, intricate pattern and organic form are recurring elements throughout Megan's work. Her paintings move between figurative and abstract approaches, often combining detailed mark-making with vivid colour and imagery drawn from the natural world, the ocean, travel and human experience. Her ceramic sculptures extend this visual language into three dimensions, translating organic forms and patterns into tactile, hand-worked works that sit between fine art and sculptural object.
Megan has exhibited internationally since 2010, when she presented her first solo exhibition in Madrid, Spain. Her subsequent exhibition history includes Agora Gallery in New York, a solo exhibition of paintings at Spazio Tadini Home Museum in Milan, and exhibitions and art fairs across Paris, London, Madrid, Milan, Rome, Venice, Monaco, Barcelona and Amsterdam. Her work has been presented by and through international galleries and curatorial organisations including Monat Gallery, Monteoliveto Gallery, Circle Foundation for the Arts and ITSLIQUID Group.
Her work has received international recognition, including the El Greco – Premio de las Bellas Artes 2025 and selection for Persona Art Honors 2025.
For Megan, art can act as a portal: a moment in which the viewer is transported beyond the everyday and into a space of emotion, contemplation and discovery. This desire to create a meaningful connection between artwork and viewer continues to shape her evolving practice.
Megan holds a Bachelor of Visual Art in Fine Art from Griffith University (Queensland College of Art), majoring in Printmaking and minoring in Ceramics, as well as qualifications in Graphic Design and Web Publishing.
