About The Artwork
Modern interpretation of the Pietà. Normally the scene is depicting the Virgin Mary cradling the dead body of Jesus. In my drawing, the roles are inverted: Jesus is cradling the dead body of his mother. Suffering doesn't confine to one person alone, the beloved ones also undergo it... My modern Christian icons revisit traditional religious imagery with new means and meanings in order to symbolise human emotions and conditions. Times get mixed up but people are the same... This drawing is part of my sketching book "Mixed Gods" (2016-2017).
