About The Artwork

After having explored the movements of the Reed in summer, it became winter and I saw appearing the dark mysterious forms of the ditch behind it. The reed had lost a lot of its leaves and the color had changed. New inspiration for the artist  I imagined how it would be with different colors and began to experiment. The darkness of the ditch invited me to play with light and dark lines and forms. Looking at this drawing makes you feel disapear in it for a while. This is a new drawing, not yet framed but that can be arranged. It is made on special cardboard for pastels so when sold it comes packed like a framed work and not in a tube. This artwork comes with an international certificate of autenticity, signed by the artist.

Monique van Stokkum (1952) is a Dutch artist. Currently she makes drawings. THE DELICATE LINE Since 2015 I make drawings again. In the beginning of my artist careeer I started with drawing (ca. 1975), then a period of painting followed . And now I'm back to my old love. The directness, grim, tenderness and strength of the drawing. THEME Of course I am touched by what is happening in the world. In my work I do not react literally on the world news. Yet it is about universal themes in which people can recognize themselves. The viewer looks for elements of life. My work gets meaning through their associations and fantasies. Landscapes, animals and people are my sources of inspiration. Not strange for someone who is born and raised in the woods. I can now say that the death of my son (2005) brought about major changes in my work. Now, after more than 10 years, I feel the space again which was not there for a long time. Since 2013 I make my Objects to Remember. Large and small painted objects in wich memories may be stored. Works of art with an extra personal significance.
