Colors: brown, black, yellow, orange, white This series is about the tension that exists between chaos and order — and treating both as equals, neither one “good” or “bad.” The process for me is about finding beauty in both: the freneticism of chaos and the discipline of order. I work in charcoal and graphite: charcoal because it is unpretentious, organic and unpredictable; graphite because its hardness provides more control and precision. Each provides characteristics that complement the other. I sometimes burnish and blend the colors with my hands to create wide, smooth backgrounds. Paper size is 96x48 inches; actual drawing is 88x40 inches (4-inch border all sides). NOTE: These drawings typically have dust marks or other byproducts of the creation process in the space around the actual artwork.
