About The Artwork
Protean Burst is drawn using a dip pen and ink on a coated cradled wood panel. The protea plant is a magical plant that take many forms. In fact the name protea refers to the old man of the sea Proteus who was able to take many forms. The word protean is taken from the name Proteus. The flower of the plant has many varieties each one radiating from it's center. They generally grow on a bush which I have seen growing wild in New Zealand. It is a theme that I frequently re-visit in my work.
