In October 2015 I took a series of photographs of reflections on water, on a rather still and dark day in Chew Magna. Since relocating to Berlin these photographs have become an axis around which a new body of work has begun to form. The theme of the drawing is very much one of loss, and of searching for meaning. The use of photography as a starting point has refreshed my practice and allowed me another way of expressing meaning and feeling through imagery. Photographs of reflections are innately different to our everyday experience of reflections in real life, a photograph reveals a snapshot, a fragment of something that is moving. Using these photographs as a starting point, 'Reflections No.1' is an attempt to revisit a confused moment in time. Drawn on Fabriano acid free watercolour paper, measuring 140 x 83cm. The drawing is 130 x 71cm as listed. The charcoal is fixed with Loxley spray fixative, a non yellowing, cfc free fixative.

I was born in Brixton in 1981, and grew up in Donegal, later returning to the UK to study Art, Illustration, and Printmaking at the Ruskin School Of Art Cambridge. Drawing is at the core of my practice and forms the fundamental reference point upon which my ideas and practice is based. I draw either from memory or imagination, but mostly directly from life. Through careful study of a subject or topic I explore common themes which run through my work; identity, individuality, loneliness and love. My studio is currently based in Berlin.
