About The Artwork

......Half of his breathing life was in a Pathos state, an exciting life full of madness, revel, and Samadhi. The artist himself was in the same hazed state as the famous Chinese/Daoist Philosopher Zhuangzi, who in the thinker’s anecdote, upon waking up from a dream of being a butterfly, admitted he did not know if he was a butterfly or a philosopher. Choi Sori was in this state as he hit drums of all shapes and sizes to resonate with the world. Each time, the artist’s spiritual flow that only he and not the crowd could see, in other words, the sound waves of the drums, wound up the tens of thousands of people to resonate with the empty spaces in their cells. Subsequently, Choi Sori suddenly decided to visualize the percussive sounds that only he could see. The reason is that he knew time-based arts like performance are spontaneous at spreading spiritual feelings, but not persistent...... ......Choi Sori feels with his whole body those wavy waves created by the sounds from his beating as they push out the density of air. It’s the pattern from the waves that only he can see through the five senses. Once such sound waves had already left the epicenter and disappeared into distant space, the heart’s core and feelings of resentment (Han) will become purified. As a first step, realizing that emptiness also remains, the artist begins to capture on canvases the traces left behind when the sound waves sweep through. The author himself feels in his state of resonance, in other words, the Pathos and spiritual states, the feelings Samadhi and intense drive: madness and intoxication, fear, passion and ecstasy, and even the emotions of extreme sorrow... Although these are expressed visually and not through sound, we can experience a sort of hallucination that allows us to hear and feel the same waves that resonate from sounds. This is possible because of the subtleties of our human body called synesthesia. The desire to show the sound he wanted was realized through the beauty of expressing objects and things artistically in three dimensions within a flat surface/canvas, adding another [figurative] annual tree growth ring to his life...... ......Choi Sori’s artistic behavior of synesthesia, which transcends traditional genres and media, can be found in the Korean people’s spiritual sense of beauty. Spirituality does not occur when rational reason is in charge of our brains, but when we feel spirits in our body, which bring out the states of Samadhi, intense drive, and trance. Whoever reaches this spiritual state will become mentally elated and physically excited. Since Korea’s Sanggo era, our ancestors have recognized this spiritual state as the only channel to interact with Plotinus’ ‘the One’, Mother Nature, the skies, space, and the universe. In the thought that the universe is composed of humans who reside between the land and skies, there must be a spiritual warrior who connects the Earth with the heavens. In other words, a person who can more than anyone else, easily fall into a Pathos state to lead the masses through collective hypnosis is needed. In this way, the supernatural thought of Cheonji-in (skies, land, and humans) that originated from the Jecheon event during the Sanggo period, was expressed in the Joseon Dynasty through the Pungnyu spirit (‘wind flowing mindset’), following the Hwarang (Flower Knights of Silla Dynasty). Today, it is a unique Korean thought that is passed down and manifested to all artists. www.choisori.com https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odjH5YxsEQ8&t=619s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XU4rcz9PLVA&t=7s

"My work consists of drumming, and is completed through dance-like movements, combined with humming, to join my body with a strong spiritual energy. Each time I start, I release my current (spiritual) self and meet another version of my spiritual being." "All objects and energies in this world have their own sounds. I want to be a messenger to send such sounds to all of you. I am crushed on such sounds." About Seeing Sound_Choi, Sori 1) KBS TV https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XU4rcz9PLVA&t=9s 2.
