Born in Cuba, in 1973, Yaquelin Cancela was learning about art since she was very young. Part of her family were painters that studied at the San Alejandro Academy in Cuba. She began studying perspective with the help of her father at a very early age. Later, she graduated from Electrical Engineering , although she kept drawing a lot during her spare time. In the family house there were walls covered by the original paintings of her aunts. Yaquelin is a great admirer of Remedios Varo art. Somehow both women have something in common. There was a paternal figure that helped them to understand many aspects of drawing. Both women have very strong Spanish roots too. Yaquelin is a lover of fantasy places and surrealism. Her paintings included in the series: "Along the unfrequented path" are her contribution to making her dreams a reality. She currently lives in the city Dundas, in the province of Ontario, Canada.
