About The Artwork
These ceramic pieces were created by me, and I sketched them before I decided to paint them exactly as they are - in black and white. Porcelain or stoneware clay were used. The tallest piece is handbuilt, whereas the others are thrown on the wheel. Many potters prefer one method over the other, and I find while both allow for artistic expression, handbuilt is the creative inspiration winner! I enjoy working with graphics that are more black/white so the fact that there's only the grey of shadow, and in a drawing, I can bridge the gap between dark and light.

Sandra Lee Kennedy Born, raised and live in Toronto. I made a tour of the art schools here. From the University of Toronto, I studied fine art, including drawing under David Rifat. I studied illustration and design at the Ontario College of Art, and have augmented my painting instruction with forays at the Toronto School of Art and the Art Gallery of Ontario. A few years ago, I went to the Mendocino Art School in California specifically to paint with Rosemary Allen; I hard a hard time determining the logic behind abstract painting. Having worked in marketing communications for over 40 years, I am just beginning to spend time working on canvases, drawings and ceramics. That’s one of my excuses for not showing and selling my work earlier beyond our living room.
