Sugar Mouth Drawing

Born in São Paulo, adopted by Rio de Janeiro at the age of twelve, when he began his knowledge of photography with his father, Roberto Maia, a noted photojournalism photographer for the magazine O Cruzeiro and the newspaper Última Hora. He made photography his reason for life. Over the years, discovering his ability to design, he exchanges the cameras for papers and paints; he explores the experience of light and composition that he obtained in Photography to transfer it in his works, uniting two languages that consolidate his technique. The presence of photography in his drawings is revealed with great force, not by a Hyperrealism, but by his cinematic compositions and by the instantaneity of movements; it's as if the art of the lens had become ingrained in it. Rubens was an artist who portrayed, both in the drawings in coal and in the oil paintings, the neighborhood of Santa Teresa, where he lived; fishing beaches in Arraial do Cabo; sexy women; and characters from carioca bohemia.
