These works capture the tensions in relations that ensue during the alignments and realignments that occur between entities in different spaces during soft contestations that come before ugly tussles for outright dominance. The result is a suspended state of being that persists subject to the exercise of restraint by the actors. Through these, the artist shares his commentary and inquiry on the sustainability of sharing the socio-political space as man and man-made entities like the state navigate through the politics of relationships, boundaries, sharing, identity, belonging, alliance, competition, and dominance in a world where there’s an ever present threat of new collisions when what holds things together is suspended. The concept of suspensions finds utility in intrapersonal communication, interpersonal exchanges, and the stabilizing and destabilizing events in national, regional, and international politics. Within the context of Kenya’s prolonged election period after the prolonged electioneering period, Suspensions is no longer a concept, but a shared reality by all who care about this country. The same applies to the threats of nuclear war between big countries and big men in small and big countries.
