About The Artwork
Inspired by my first experience of fishing on Magnetic Island at Picnic Bay Jetty. I didn't sleep that night. Every time I closed my eyes, I could not help remember this beautiful fish in my hands. The pain it must have felt. What if it was me? This is a surreal depiction of a mermaid caught on a fishing hook in a great struggle. Tears in her eyes, pleading and reproach at the cruelty of this act. The artist no longer eats fish.
