About The Artwork

The female form is beautiful. The pregnant female body is glorious. I choose to depict this pregnant woman in a moment of reflection as she holds her full belly in her arms and reflects on her newborn child.

Ask David Kofton about his work, and he will tell you, “I am the voyeur. The unseen - narrating with paint." For 57 years, David has sought to capture the emotions as well as the beauty of his subjects. Known widely for his figurative art which has gained notoriety throughout the world, David works with the sensuous lines of the female form. David's work is included the private collections of the Fuller Art Museum in Brockton, MA; Museum de la Erotica in Barcalona, Spain; E.S. Museum in Miami, FL; and the Kinsey Institute in Indiana. For the Kinsey, his work comprises the largest collection of paintings, drawings, and sculptures of a living artist. David has been published in various magazines and books including “The World's Greatest Erotic Art of Today, Volume 2.” David studied at Massachusetts College of Art, graduating with a B.S.E. and a B.F.A. in 1967. For several years, David taught painting and sculpture in upstate New York before returning home to Deer Isle, Maine in 1972 where he maintains a studio to this day. In 2005, with disintegrating vertebrae in his lower back, Kofton's physical limitations dictated the limits of his work. Larger projects still linger in his mind. With a diagnosis of lymphoma (cancer) in 2014, David's creativity was dealt another blow. With the help and support of his wife Jill, David's work intensified and he pushed even more in the studio. When not painting or drawing, he works in his sculpture studio. When physically unable to push further, David writes poetry, prose, and recollections well into the night and early morning in order to reveal the Truth to himself. Due to health issues, David limits exhibiting his work toThe Pearson Legacy Gallery, the Deer Isle Artists' Association gallery and with Jill, a quilt artist, from their home studios and gallery in Deer Isle.
