About The Artwork

Notes on Nature 'Ein Neuer Tag' 2018 I want to get into the subject of modern or contemporary art, what are the elements that make art contemporary art? And what does this mean? A recurring designation in the History of Art, and what is its value? Van Gogh was known as modern or in our terms contemporary because he broke with traditions, but today any artist anywhere brakes or tries to, with traditions. Has modern or contemporary become a meaning in itself? Reference to this subject: Rem Koolhaas on modernism About Riedstra: A Working Process In my opinion a work of art defines several things: Among others, an authentic interpretation by the artist, meaning: one can recognise the hand of the artist in the concept that underlies the work. By giving it the necessary surplus the artist commits himself to research his project. Searching again and again for new ways in himself, in order to express what he/she tries to communicate to him/herself and the public. A work with a different kind of beauty, confrontational, forcing the audience to think and to look again. The last, to me, is important. This you could mark as the contemporaneous of an artwork the result and impact of my experiences show in my current work. (©)Riedstra

Riedstra started drawing at a young age and in the following years, after finishing her education at St Martins, London (M.A. Scenography), she developed an authentic style, that characterises her as a professional artist, fully aware of the world she lives in and fully aware of how to respond to the estrangement she encounters in society. This being her point of departure. (Her extensive traveling and living abroad had a major impact on her view of the world) Her talent is being recognized and this gives her the opportunity to work freely, from within herself, without being bordered by what is agreeable and fashionable. As a photographer Riedstra uses this very same talent, the eye of the camera becoming her drawing tool so to speak. Her photographs were chosen for a major exhibition at the Louvre in Paris. Her works are in the collection of the City Museum in Tetovo, Macedonia, and Budapest. Several drawings from the Renaissance project were bought by private collectors in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, France, USA. Several paintings are in private collections.
