About The Artwork

Explanation: This piece was never made with the purpose of making art. It used to be the top of a study desk which was used for everyday purposes, studying etc. All the sketches it has on it, were made little by little day by day without specific meaning or explanation. They just expressed subconscious feelings and thoughts. After the desk was full I had the idea of camouflaging this desk and present it like a piece of art to fit a living room. And the question was, if a students study desk can be camouflaged and presented as art. Few words: This piece was made to explore how could a student’s study desk, full of abstract sketches, expressing random subconscious feelings and not made in the purpose of art creating, could ever be camouflaged and presented as a piece of art to fit in a living room. Technical specifications: Title: The sad student’s art. Dimensions: 214cm x 75cm x 9,5cm Weight: 47kg Year of creation: 2017 Main materials that constitute this piece: pine wood, crystal glass, ink and correction pen The title labels on the artwork and the corresponding certification box are lead casted and embedded in liquid glass. The frame is made from Swiss pine and crystal glass protection. The handle of certification box is made from dental alloy casting and a real human wisdom tooth (extracted for orthodontic reasons and autoclave sterilized after) All other teeth structures on certification box are made from artificial teeth on dental alloy castings Custom handmade leather and cork cases for authentication documents The signature label on the artwork is a lead inlay in wood and the one on the certification box is a dental amalgam inlay in wood Certification documents are printed out in Hahnemühle fine art paper 100% cotton 310gsm and wax sealed. ARTIST STATEMENT: When I begin a new work of art, I am at peace. My ideas are not so much premeditated but rather led within each moment. I will think on a subject that is important to me for some time but it is within the moment of creation that the idea truly unfolds into something bigger. As a commentary on critical social issues, my work is intended to invoke conversation and a deeper exploration of their very existence and their ongoing effects on the world around us. These topics may include mental health, warfare, food & health, immigration, drug addiction or environmental destruction. I may also reflect on topics such as love, music and the struggles of life and transitions. My work examines the intricate details of each issue and the cyclical, hypocritical nature of our society at large. Each piece is very specific and has an expanded meaning and a deeper message. Every detail you see adds to that overall message. My belief is that you can like something that looks beautiful but you can only love something that means something deeper to you and emotionally touches you. It is at this moment when the artist and the viewer can walk through the same thought patterns. When I am deciding on a piece and the materials to use, it is serendipitous and is connected only to the moment of creation. I believe that each technique and each material has a right place and a right time and each one becomes the bridge that allows me to express my thoughts in a unique and creative way.
