About The Artwork

My work is grounded in the tradition of twentieth-century abstract painting. This work is a formal exploration of the 'language' of abstraction, whereby various marks (drips, stains, brush strokes, etc) normally associated with spontaneous painterly action are performed off-site and re-presented in a manner that references digital/non-linear methods of image creation. This work on paper was made employing a monoprint technique (unique print) using black ink. The artwork was developed further in the studio where additional spills, drips and pools of metallic silver paint were collaged onto the surface of the paper. The final image is, despite its spontaneous appearance, a hybrid of painting and collage that has been realized slowly over time through much consideration.
