About The Artwork

The Sampler was a piece of embroidery produced by girls to demonstrate their needlework skills and often included biblical verses. The form was subverted by feminists in the 1970s and so, it seemed the perfect vehicle to express the unsaid, taboo thoughts of a new, sleep deprived mother. It is intended to challenge the idealised image of motherhood portrayed in images of Madonna and Child and give voice to the despair mothers often feel, but with a sense of humour

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I work in a mixture of ceramics and fabric/embroidery, both mediums traditionally associated with women and the home and both considered secondary to the fine art mediums of painting and sculpture. I love the tactile, textured quality of these materials and enjoy pushing the boundaries of what is possible using these mediums. My work is about the public/private self and is influenced by the literature of Virginia Woolf. I am currently working on a large installation, ' Kitchen', which develops this idea and explores the world of a middle aged woman contemplating her life.
