About The Artwork
This installation it was made with unused wedding dresses (ordered via web), geotextile fiber, soil - compost from a local producer and various seeds. These components during the two months of exhibition were generating an artificial and three-dimensional topos. “Alejandra González Soca establishes a kind of ecological micro system where the life of the buds arises inside wedding dresses. The female imaginary contrasts with nature, life and death flow and coexist in the room. The seed sprouts, must be watered by both: exhibition room staff and the public, do nothing other than affirm the participatory profile, not only of contemporary art as of what it is to coexist. I view my practice as an ongoing process where I include a vast inventory of objects, images, stories and other inventions I revisit time and time again. I use layering, blurry images and a certain formal sensuousness to create an immersive experience offering access from different interaction levels for every individual. My artwork often includes pieces I collect from flea markets and family and community archives. Thus, individual and collective searches are an essential part of the process. I propose a strategy of hybridisation and disruption that invites questions about the limitations we face in everyday life. My work therefore explores the ways in which we are affected and transformed by external factors and impulses, and the interrelation between a personal conscience and the collective perception.
