ABOUT THE ARTWORK

To me, the spark of change can fill us with anticipation — if we find ourselves in a place of love we might feel excited or thrilled, and if we're in a place of fear we can feel anxious or full of doubt.

Statement — My work initiates from the process of change. I have always been interested in the emotions that surge in life when I deal with ‘ends’ and with ‘new beginnings’, and the struggle between these feelings - which can come from a place of love or a place of fear. I work with fibers using techniques that generate a cultural connection with my country and my roots. In my pieces I tend to show fibers pushing themselves through, in what seems to be an effort to be seen. Currently I am working on a series about nostalgia, specifically about the memories that I carry with me of something that no longer exists. The year 2020 brought for me a new meaning to living away from home - I realized that I can let go and I can grow, while still carrying with me a “perfect” memory. The objective of my work is to highlight the struggle of facing change, as well as understanding the value of it. — Bio — Cristina is a graphic designer and fiber artist. She grew up in Monterrey, Mexico, where she got a BA in Graphic Design from Universidad de Monterrey. After working for several years in local advertising agencies, together with her sister, they founded their own design firm "Stelier" in 2010. That same year, she moved to Dallas, TX. Four years later - while living on the East Coast - with her innate talent, creativity, and curiosity, she started learning weaving and knotting techniques. After discovering this new passion, she has been constantly creating unique pieces ranging from jewelry to wall art and installations, and also continues working on branding projects with her sister. She moved back to Dallas in 2015, where she currently resides with her family.
