About The Artwork

October 16, 1793 is a special date in French and European history, since it is the day of the condemnation and then the execution by guillotine of Queen Marie-Antoinette. In this painting, we find the figure of the queen in the form of a red "tattoo" (based an old engraving) which covers the skin of a woman who herself looks like a contemporary aristocrat, naked, with her wig and a skull at his feet. We can consider that it is a double-vanity, with this classic skull but also a premonitory tattoo/engraving which together say: "Memento Mori". This painting is a unique piece made in mixed technique on canvas, it combines photography, digital composition and acrylic painting, with a signature square made in relief on the surface of the canvas. The painting is framed in an American black wooden box (total dimensions: approximately 66 x 26 x 3.5 cm)

« In the age of digital technologies, I couldn't just be a painter or a photographer. My 'paintographies' bring down borders between techniques and offer a resolutely contemporary hybrid art. » I was born in 1975 in a small town in the French countryside and arrived in Paris in 1992 for my studies (History, English and literature). I have been a professional artist since 2007, with over 60 exhibitions across France and Europe. My artistic approach is both simple and complex. Although my work portrays a figurative aesthetic that favors clarity, it does so through a complex blending of photography, digital art, and acrylic painting. The result is a mixed technique I call ‘paintography’. My compositions highlight the fragility of the human body. I transform my model into virtual sculptures by replacing their skin with mineral materials to represent the passage of time.
