The Artist's creative journey began with the art form of collage, a medium that allows for endless possibilities and unexpected combinations. In an exclusive interview in bustling Los Angeles, she reveals her fascination with Triple X newspapers found in kiosks scattered throughout the city. These free publications held a hidden treasure for the artist - the coveted want ads in the back pages. With eager hands, she carefully cut out images of beautiful women, preserving their beauty and giving them a "safe haven" on her wall, away from the harsh realities of street life. It all started back in 2007, when the artist first discovered her passion for collages. But jump forward to 2020, amidst a global pandemic, when creativity flourishes even in the darkest of times. The Artist finds inspiration in the works of Andy Warhol, particularly his photographs. Armed with only charcoal and a keen eye for color and abstract shapes, she creates six striking squares and rectangles on paper. Delving into her stash of previously painted, stenciled, and printed papers, she uncovers a rare gem - a first edition copy of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf". With careful precision, she cuts sections from the book and seamlessly incorporates them into her art alongside powerful lines from the play that resonate with her. Some may gasp at the thought of cutting up a rare first edition book, but for the Artist it is just another canvas waiting to be transformed. To add even more depth and dimension to each piece, she uses vibrant fluorescent gouache paints. And as if that wasn't enough creativity already infused into her art pieces, she also repurposes antique frames salvaged from a recycling bin. Through meticulous sanding, painting, and delicate application of gold leaf by the Artist herself, these frames are given new life and perfectly frame her one-of-a-kind creations Each frame measures approximately 10" x 10" x 1" or 12" x 9" x 1". We hope you enjoy this whimsical collection.
