About The Artwork

Many an Art historian and Art critic intensely dislikes the idea that the practices of shamanism, occultism, magic or even spiritualism have been influential on the birth and development of Modern Art: “The fact is (…) embarrassing,” a famous British Art critic, Waldemar Januszczak, wrote in 2010. Although he was primarily referring to the symbolic synthesis of Theosophy, but he also mentioned Spiritualism, some consider as being no different to necromancy or ancestor worship: “If there is one thing you do not want your hardcore modernist to be, it is a member of an occult cult […]. [This] takes art into Dan Brown territory. No serious student of art history wants to touch it.” (Januszczak 2010). However, most of the techniques, which are utilised in occultism were originally derived from the practice of Art. Hence you have the terminology, the Magical Arts and the Art of Magic. They are essentially one and the same shamanic practice. In general, both Art and occult practices are orientated towards the understanding and manipulation of visualised symbolism and associated colour, etc, which is the language form of dreams. Your reptilian (Dragon) brain is directly connected to your eyes. The visual stimulation of the reptilian brain is the strongest, since we process about 80% of our daily informational intake through our eyes. The reptilian brain is motivated by visual symbolic-images, sounds, touch, smell, and taste, but it is not motivated by (thinking) language (words) unless the language helps create a vivid mental image, which can be drawn/painted. In other words, your reptilian brain primarily thinks in symbols, which are conjured up within your Triangle Of Art imagination by the nigh instantaneous associative process of corresponding spoken or written words. While music conjures differing symbolic associations, which are empowered by your reptile brain emotions, the sound evokes. When lyrics are utilised in league with the music, the emotionally charged lyrics channels your associative thought processes in a certain direction. If you have not learnt (memorised) what type of symbol corresponds to a particular sound of a spoken or written word, you will not understand what is being communicated. The reptilian brain determines the depth of your hypnagogic trance (Theta brainwave) states and REM dreams; wherein a created two-dimensional symbol/image of a painting, drawing, etc, can be consciously conjured up as an interactive three-dimensional reality within a lucid dream. Hence, in ancient times, an inanimate symbol, which had been conjured up within the imagination unto a stirred dream was considered to be an animated spirit. Such will make little sense to those who have not experienced a lucid dream, let alone remembering their dreams since the symbolic language form of the dream is generally considered to be unimportant by many a dogmatic Art historian and Art critic thriving within a present dreamless Cult-ure. But should you remember your dreams, which are populated by numerous trigger-symbols that can initiate lucidity when recognised, you might just fathom that the first Artist was a Shaman, the first Shaman was an Artist, both one and the same, indivisible. Trigger-symbols within dreams usually symbolise anything that has to do with survival of the species, such as sex, power, food and an Artists self-image. These types of trigger-symbols will trigger a reptilian brain response. The reptilian brain is not able to tell the difference between a created 'image' and a real life occurrence, and likewise your nervous-system cannot tell the difference between a vividly imagined event or a real one. Ancient Shaman-Artists utilised this understanding of the mundane to otherwise translate into the trans-mundane by creating meditation imagery in order to induce as well as engineer lucid dreams, which leads to consciousness expansion. Erotic Tantric meditation imagery works in a similar way, which are often juxtaposed with Surrealist horror themes involving the séance conjuration of self-created (Tulpa/Dakini) ghosts, etc, so that the terror of hypnagogic trance can be transmuted and transcended by introverting the sexual impulse. The more vivid the meditation images, which are created, and evocative sounds that are heard, while creating a séance work of Art, achieves a quick response from the reptilian (Dragon) brain of the Shaman/Artist. The Art/Sorcery goal being the (magical) achievement of a lucid dream, wherein a chosen grimoire archetype, such as an Art Muse (Dakini) can be consciously conjured. Whatever the Artist believes will determine the nature of the inner experience. Although his/her beliefs have invariably been molded by the Cult-ure within which the Artist works. Beliefs are symbolic-constructs, which can be self-created of (Dragon brain) artistry. When a symbolic-construct of a belief becomes that of a viral-meme, involving a mass-mind focus, you then have a Cult-ural symbolic construct, which of a Ring-Pass-Not limit, places a limitation upon the Triangle Of Art imagination for a time, until another self-created symbolic construct evolves into a viral-meme. But it better that the conjuring Artist works with symbolic-constructs of varying beliefs, like that of tools, used by a scientist in order to explore how reptile brain beliefs can imprison the mind, whereas scientific experience frees it. You are only limited by the extent of your imagination, which of the inner 'eye of the observer is amidst the Triangle Of Art, comprising of reptile brain emotion, cerebellum (mammalian brain) memory and cerebrum (hominid brain) thought.

Mardun is principally a Surrealist Artist, whose author's name is Faustus Crow; but both art and writing alchemically merge of a sacred wedding. Mardun has an experiential interest in lucid dreaming, which of a neurological phenomenon has inspired artists and authors throughout the ages, from whose creations since the time of the painted cave wall of a Shaman have sprung insights into the nature of reality, which became ensuing mystical traditions, such as the occultism of Aleister Crowley to that of the Surrealist 'fantasy fiction' of H.P Lovecraft. Mardun does not see a division between the practices of art and magic; for both practices deal with symbolism, which is the subconscious language form of surrealist dreams and of your fantastic Imagination, which also inspires your culture.
