About The Artwork

This is a theme I have been working on for 3 years now - the memories from my journeys, how they transform when time passes and how I imagine the same moments year after year. This specific scene is from the village of my grandparents, where I spent most of the summers as a child. This is the end of the village, just before the beginning of the forest where a small path leads to an even smaller river. I went up and down that road countless times: when I was a child, when I fell in love for the first time, when I carried my baby girl and my two sons, when they grew up and could run down on their own. I hope one day I’ll be able to take my grandchildren there too. It is so soothing that for nearly 40 years this scene has not changed one bid.

I am a full-time graphic designer currently rediscovering my love for painting. After many years spent in advertisement I managed to take a step back from digital work and focus on working with watercolour, gouache and ink. I draw inspiration from the photographs I take during traveling around Europe and from my hometown of Plovdiv - one of the oldest cities in the world. I usually do a lot of fast sketches and base my artwork on those rather than the original photographs i take. This way I hope to escape the rigidity of realism and instead pass on the feeling and impression of the moment upon the viewer. Music plays an essential role in my work process. It is impossible for me to feel truly inspired without some jazz playing in the background. It was most fortunate that my first art exhibition took place in a renowned jazz club in Plovdiv’s Old Town. The music just kept on playing even after the artworks were framed. I hope that they will resonate with people around the world and bring more joy to their souls as they have done for mine.
