About The Artwork

This work has an accompanying animation that is viewable using an augmented reality mobile phone app. My work is inspired by architectural models, digital glitch art and an expression of my anxiety disorder. My process begins with a geometric shape for which I create a "cage", using a 3D design program. I then use a CNC router to cut the form from a flat sheet of plexi, and paint and assemble the cage. I then pour paint on canvas sheets and cut it in the same shape and size as the cage, as well as paint a gradient of the same colors on a another canvas sheet. I then glitch it out of the cage and the colors glitch and bleed down the canvas. These works take two weeks start to finish to create. These pieces take all of my concentration to create, which is meditative and healing for me. It helps me to ignore my anxieties when I can focus on cutting 115 strips of canvas at an exact width, and assemble those 115 strips of canvas on a gradient of color that sings to me, within the parameters of a cage that is an exact size I have to fit within.

I am a self-taught emerging artist. I was born 1981, Bangui, Central African Republic and immigrated to America when I was 4. I currently live and work in Atlanta. I create mixed media artworks, paintings and sculptures. In a search for new methods to make real the inner vision I have of my works, I use CNC (computer numerical control) routers to fabricate my structures, and augmented reality to animate my complex mixed media artworks. In my work, you will find references to color theory as well as avant-garde architecture, and movement as form. My interactive mixed media artworks isolate the movements of my subjects. By doing so, new sequences are created which reveal an inseparable relationship between motion and static. By applying abstraction, the multilayered images express movement. This reveals an inherent awkwardness, a glitch, which echoes my own vulnerabilities in which the fragility and instability of seemingly certain reality is questioned. By questioning the concept of movement, the results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted. I try to develop forms that follow logical criteria, but are also based on subjective associations and formal parallels, which incite the viewer to make new personal associations. Notable in my works are their finish and tactile nature. This is of great importance and bears witness to craftsmanship. By choosing technologically formal solutions, and focusing on techniques and materials, I work within a rigorous framework to express a chaotic form. My work is inspired by the capability of technology to express the chaleur humaine and I am excited to continue experimenting. I believe my work to be truly unique, I think I have a new voice and perspective. The works are interactive as viewer uses their phone to view the augmented reality animations, because of this, my work has the potential to create new dialogues with art and technology.
