About The Artwork

"La Vierge Folle II" (i.e. "The Mad Virgin II" in French) is an atypical artwork compared to the rest of my work. It shows a naked woman who joins her two hands in front of her lower belly as in an attitude of prayer or expectation. Her skin seems to be completely covered with a huge tattoo whose motif could be either tribal or vegetal, a tattoo which covers the whole body like a piece of clothes and makes nudity disappear. This painting is a one-of-a-kind piece made in mixed technique on canvas and combines photography, digital composition and acrylic painting (many layers of transparent glaze and square in relief). It is framed in black wood (total dimensions: approximately 81 x 100 x 3.5 cm)

« In the age of digital technologies, I couldn't just be a painter or a photographer. My 'paintographies' bring down borders between techniques and offer a resolutely contemporary hybrid art. » I was born in 1975 in a small town in the French countryside and arrived in Paris in 1992 for my studies (History, English and literature). I have been a professional artist since 2007, with over 60 exhibitions across France and Europe. My artistic approach is both simple and complex. Although my work portrays a figurative aesthetic that favors clarity, it does so through a complex blending of photography, digital art, and acrylic painting. The result is a mixed technique I call ‘paintography’. My compositions highlight the fragility of the human body. I transform my model into virtual sculptures by replacing their skin with mineral materials to represent the passage of time.
