"I started this piece over five years ago. My idea was to capture the essence of "life". I was inspired by Vincent van Gogh's "The Starry Night", how each of his brush strokes stood independent, yet the colors were connected throughout the painting. I wanted to duplicate a dreamy starry night feel, but push that theme of connection. The image on the front is created by small intentional stitches that are composed by tangled webs and knots on the back. I believe the contrast between the appearance of the front side and the chaos of the back reflects the nature of our society. The beauty of our world hides the time, effort, and emotions it took to create. Simply put, a smile can be a mask for pain. Everything in our world is connected, and each single stitch represents that. As the artist of this piece, I have overcome many obstacles in order to finish this piece. To me it's not just a house with a tree, it represents my focus, dedication, and vision. There were many times I looked at this work and thought "It'll never be done." but here it is. I did it! It's literally a dream come true!"
