About The Artwork

Once upon a time, Austrian Lloyd - the largest and most successful Austro-Hungarian shipping company - held the so-called Dalmatian Express Line, a route starting in Trieste that went south of the Austrian Riviera, along the coast of Istria and Dalmatia, all the way down to Dubrovnik and Kotor, visiting many historical ports on the islands and along the Adriatic coast. That passenger naval route persisted for more than a century, with some modifications (Rijeka - Dubrovnik, Rijeka - Dubrovnik - Bar - Bari). During the seventies it even went far south to Corfu and Igoumenitsa in Greece. Croatian shipping company Jadrolinija finally abolished the "unprofitable" line in 2014. This digital painting is a reminiscence of days past.

Between 1975-1977 he taught aesthetics at the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Zagreb. From 1990 on, he periodically taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses for ethnology/cultural anthropology and folkloristics, both at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and at the Centre for Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb.
