About The Artwork

Malibu Sunrise Sunset was created on a South African Navigation Chart of Port Elizabeth to Great Fish Point. In many ways, sunsets and sunrises represent our lives and how they are woven together in a cycle of beginnings and endings. A sunrise symbolizes a new start or chapter in life, while a sunset can be seen as a reminder of the journey’s end. Both these moments can be seen as a metaphor for life, and how it involves moments of joy and sorrow, success and failure, and how it is constantly in a state of flux. Even though each day brings a new sunrise and sunset, life itself is a never-ending cycle. No matter where we are, sunsets have the power to remind us of the beauty of life and the importance of appreciating the moments we have. Sunsets can be a source of reflection and contemplation. They can be a reminder of the cycle of life, that every end is a new beginning, and that life is ever-changing. Some anthropologists argue the word 'Malibu' is a combination of Native American words mali + wu, which mean “where the mountains meet the sea”

Im a female artist from Cape Town, South Africa. I have been painting for the last 20 years, with no formal art education. My journey started with a box of Vintage Dress Patterns which was turned into a skirt on a metal wired Mannequin and from there to canvas. I have sold many pieces all over the world like Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Madagascar, San Francisco, New York etc. I have exhibited in London at the Art of Africa Gallery. Currently Im working with good old fashion Brown Paper and Vintage Navigation Charts. I only sketch woman and make use of pencils, charcoal and Acrylic paint.
