About The Artwork

I create art that shows what our world looks like currently. The world order and international law have been destroyed, and political, social and financial crises are raging. The series of paintings The Gaze of Medusa, like my other works, is based on the interaction of destruction and restoration, on a mixture of styles and materials. I depict this with rough industrial materials mostly in black and white to show the tension and conflict. I also use broken stones, decorative elements from previous cultural eras, and heads of characters from Greek myths. Using the whimsical aesthetics of decadence and symbolism at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, I add to the canvas a bit of the beauty and luxury that exists in our world along with the destruction and disappointment of people from what is happening. Why do I place the head of the most amazing and mysterious creature of Greek mythology on my sculptural composition? Why is the name of the painting The Look of Medusa? This is a metaphor or concept that allows viewers to draw an analogy to the formation of stones from the flickering gaze of Medusa. After all, everyone knows that just one glance from Medusa turned all living things into stone. The modern image of Medusa is associated with beauty, philosophy and art.

Artist Statement My art is a reflection of the nerve of the era (zeitgeist). It rethinks the complex processes of searching for a new world order through social and military crises. The prematurely proclaimed “end of history” did not happen, the “grand narratives” returned and changed our ideas about the world - it is now seen as unpredictable and unreliable. The philosophical paradigm of our time is in a state of oscillation and simultaneity between the opposing aspects of the cultural codes of previous eras and modernity. We find ourselves at the intersection of the collapse of the old and the construction of a new world. The interdisciplinary approach of the metamodernist artist allows me to observe this transition and explore it comprehensively from the point of view of my constant interests: politics, psychology, sociology, futurology. That is why my art creates tension and conflict, while simultaneously showing a way out of it through a combination of contrasting phenomena: destruction and creation, clarity and ambiguity, irony and sincerity, relativism and the need to make choices. My visual language is expressed predominantly by a black and white palette and non-artistic industrial materials embedded in the space of the canvas. These are no longer paintings, but not yet sculptures. Broken elements of antique style, baroque, gothic are conceptually associated with the wreckage of today's world, and visually refer us to eternity - archeology, making my works commentaries on it. The practice of mixed media transfers tension from the real world into art, where bridging the distance between them allows us to recreate a sense of wholeness. This is how I transform postmodern deconstructivism into harmonious constructivism, offering the viewer a new vision of the world with positive scenarios.
