About The Artwork

New Note 1 Original Series – 1 of 1 Combining vintage and modern imagery, New Note is a series that creates a narrative through capturing particular moments, showing how time is ever evolving through the depiction of familiar yet abstracted images. Texture and nostalgia are important elements, taking the viewer to a particular time, place or situation through a multi-layered expressive surface. Signature black type printed on to vintage ephemera combined with block colour.

As a mixed media artist and collector of objects I have been sourcing industrial heritage objects since the early 90s. A collection of unique items, that includes an eclectic mix of industrial, reclaimed, antique and retro inspires my prints, paintings, films & animations. Inspired by people and place, the work I create documents the visual world, capturing and exploring multi-layered journeys that hint at the past, present and future. Much of the imagery produced sees found objects collaged together, underpinned by maps, plans and networks. Text features heavily through the work, offering a narrative, pressing the viewer to see beyond the familiar. Typically, the work explores industrial themes, drawing inspiration from the collections of objects sourced. Working collaboratively without boundaries is a key philosophy of my practice. Growing up immersed in the early 90’s skate scene, influences of urban culture are explored through the work. From explosions of vibrant colour as a nostalgic reference to my California dreamer skateboard bought aged 7 to the rhythmic marks reflecting early musical influences of the first record I bought by Dougie fresh and the get fresh crew, the production of the work captures a love of music and 90s urban scene and culture. Early in my career, being part of an artist collective in Edinburgh established a collaborative ethos, working alongside other artists, writers, musicians and producers, blurring the boundaries of fine art with urban and popular culture. The dichotomy between high and low art remains a key theme, I create multi-disciplinary pieces, exhibiting, selling and promoting my work for the creative market Nationally and Internationally.
