About The Artwork
"Odalisque" is a seemingly very classic painting, with a nude reclining from the back which evokes the famous paintings of Ingres on an Orientalist theme. But under this very sober sculptural nude, we discover a sheet which seems to have been covered with graffiti and which brings a very contemporary touch to the whole. Other contemporary elements typical of the digital language: the square that is hollowed out between the model's shoulders, very visible, and the eleven other squares that discreetly dot the sheet in a paradoxical fashion: as a square could be hollowed out of a piece of fabric? This painting is a unique piece made in mixed technique on canvas combining photography, digital composition and acrylic painting (multiple transparent glazes, glossy varnish and squares in relief). The work is framed in black wood (total dimensions: approximately 34 x 44 x 3.5 cm)

« In the age of digital technologies, I couldn't just be a painter or a photographer. My 'paintographies' bring down borders between techniques and offer a resolutely contemporary hybrid art. » I was born in 1975 in a small town in the French countryside and arrived in Paris in 1992 for my studies (History, English and literature). I have been a professional artist since 2007, with over 60 exhibitions across France and Europe. My artistic approach is both simple and complex. Although my work portrays a figurative aesthetic that favors clarity, it does so through a complex blending of photography, digital art, and acrylic painting. The result is a mixed technique I call ‘paintography’. My compositions highlight the fragility of the human body. I transform my model into virtual sculptures by replacing their skin with mineral materials to represent the passage of time.
