Still life with cabbage and lemon Artwork

I like the weirder still life paintings of artists like Cotán. This digital image comes from combining two photos, close-ups of a lemon and a cabbage leaf. By recolouring elements of the original images, it's possible to produce a new image that has the organic form of natural objects, coupled with the clean areas of flat colour familiar from posters and woodblock prints. I hope viewers will be intrigued and sense a desire to identify objects, while at the same time perceiving the whole as an abstract play of color and shape. A bit like the Rorschach test. We are decisively in the era of digitised images, and contemporary artwork must respond to this shift in the means of representation, whether or not it uses the digital medium.
