About The Artwork

The Tree of Golden Apples is an exploration of humble materials being transformed into new entities. I used paper pulp, hand-sculpting my apples, and found twigs that I arranged around the apples that I threw on the surface. I attached them to the artwork surface where they landed, except for one apple (guess which one). The stubborn apple that didn't want to lie still had many permutations, and was tried in various locations on the tree, and even at one point was banned from the tree at all. However, in the end it joined its brothers and sisters. Structure and surface are built in layers, sometimes curing for months at a time. I used latex, grout, calcium carbonate, acrylic and gouache to build the layers. In mythology, there're many various fables about the tree of golden apples. Summarizing the myths, the golden apples are a symbol of humanity's traits, both good and evil, representing power struggles, desire, sin and survival. They also portray the division between the immortal and mortal worlds. The wooden frame is part of the artwork. The top branch on the right slightly extends outside the canvas. The artwork is ready to hang - it is equipped with hanging wire.

Poetry, music, rebellion, femininity, humour and wonder of my world reveal themselves in images, both soft and hard, always mysterious, always in layers of meaning. My stories emerge like flowers opening up their petals, one at a time, as I try to bring to light all the facets of a certain moment in time, of a beautiful memory. But in the end, or in the beginning, it's all about love. I explore painting as a connection to our human vulnerability, of which love is its ultimate manifestation. https://www.instagram.com/gone_with_chinook/
