About The Artwork

The journey of the Artist's creativity began with the art of collage, a medium that allowed her to express her fascination with Triple X newspapers found in kiosks across Los Angeles. Amidst the hectic city life, she would eagerly scour these free publications for the coveted want ads and carefully cut out images of glamorous women to incorporate into her works. It was a way for her to provide a "safe haven" for these stunning ladies on her wall, protecting them from the harsh realities of street life. This creative pursuit first sparked in 2007, but it wasn't until 2020, during the isolation of the pandemic, that the Artist found inspiration in Andy Warhol's photographs. Using only charcoal and a keen eye for color and abstract shapes, she meticulously crafted six squares and rectangles on paper. While sifting through her collection of previously painted, stenciled, and printed papers, she stumbled upon a first edition copy of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf". Ignoring any hesitations about cutting up such a valuable book, the artist incorporated sections from the novel and lines from the play that resonated with her into her artwork. The end result was a unique piece that captured both literary and visual elements. To further elevate the dimension of her pieces, the Artist used vibrant fluorescent gouache paint and repurposed frames from an antique shop. These frames had been rescued from a recycling bin and given new life through careful sanding, painting, and application of gold leaf by the skilled hands of the artist. Each frame measures approximately 10" x 10" x 1" or 12" x 9" x 1". We hope you enjoy this whimsical collection.
