About The Artwork

While working with the concept of identity in relation to society and advertising I found that, as women, we are encouraged to consume these products that advertise perfection. Although we are all aware that our appearance will never be an exact match for the model in the advert. We buy it anyway in the hopes that we will reach the perfection that society expects. I feel that women have a lot of pressure put upon them to conform to societies ideals. This creates a vicious circle of consumerism of beauty products and we become trapped within the product. Over time we come to rely on this product, the beauty that becomes 'us' is manufactured and our identities start to blur. Although originally hand drawn, using digital software to edit these images so that the barcode becomes the women was a purposeful choice. Editing software is a common thing within the advertising industry and is overused to create the perfect women for the advert.
