About The Artwork

My background in Science caused me to read widely. During my studies I came upon a text that described how ancient people used astronomical observations to develop calendars. Here I have taken an image that I created and then modified it to depict my interpretation of a Mayan calendar. From their observations, these ancient people were able to use mathematical data to predict not only eclipses but also when to plant and harvest crops by understanding seasons. All this whilst my ancestors were still at the stage of painting themselves blue with wode!

I am a retired teacher, a digital and acrylic flow artist whose home is by the sea in Brittany, France. The movement and colors of the sea influence much of my art although I am also drawn to the influences of the Art Deco period. Being born in the industrial heartland of the UK, I have vivid memories of the steel making industry. Times change and with decline of heavy industry comes the decay of the once proud structures associated with it. Urban decay influences my work as does the way nature reclaims what is hers.
