Title: The promise, variation Imagesize: 60.3x50cm Papersize: 106.5x77.6cm Technique: DGA on paper Production year: 2011 This artwork is made using digital tools. It portrays four human(like) figures, their head and shoulders. They are equally dressed in the same greenish jumpers. They carry the same hairstyle and their hair is in the same color. Their faces look alike, but are slightly different. They are portrayed against a vibrant pinkish background, a light of revelation. Together they form a group, or perhaps part of a group. They all seem to be looking at the same thing, or being within the same state of mind, reflecting peace or calmness. The artwork is expressionistic and may be said to belong to a conceptual tradition. It carries on the heritage of pop art as well as surrealism.

In a multidimensional world, art brings visibility to different viewpoints. As an artist with a minority background, I will present artistic expressions from the viewpoint of the Kveni people in the north of Norway. The Kvens as a people belongs to the cap of north, the kvens was originally situated in the north of Finland and Sweden, in Tornedalen and Bottenviken, and goes far back in our history, Many kvens lived in the north of Norway, and became a minority, with a different language and culture. The Kveni people experienced Norwegianizing in modern time, suppression from the government. Very few were to inherit their culture in modern time because of the suppression. I will try to understand what it means for a human being to loose identity and culture this way. I will also try to understand more deeply the historical roots of the Kveni people, like my grandmother, the last person in my line, to speak the Kveni language. Thematically, works are found within a conceptual tradition, or as representations of the stories of the Kveni people and their historical landscapes. This page will change as I start to bring forward new works, in line with the artistic statement.
