I was born in Winnipeg in 1954 and have spent my life in rural and urban settings in Canada. I currently live in Halfmoon Bay, British Columbia on the west coast of Canada where I am inspired by the juxtaposition of the wildness of the natural world that surrounds me and the impact of encroaching urban development. My process of art making often begins with walking with my camera. I look for something that stirs my imagination, a kind of poetic archaeology of what it is to be human in the present time. Through processing, the intuitive capture often begins to reveal something that was hidden.  I try to not have too many rules about how I make art. I embrace strategy and risk. When I work in my studio, I am usually engaged in a struggle with the processes of painting. I am often favouring the rough workings of paint gestures over finely crafted brush strokes. For more than half my life, I have been a visual artist working in painterly abstraction. My art practice today includes abstract painting, collage/assemblage and digital artworks.
