These paintings are generated by hand. In an instant - quite fast. But in a way they still contain and spatially embody the extremely focused 30 seconds it took me to bring each and every one of them into being. Always the earlier parts of the stroke are spatially further back. The last bits must always in the front. This produces the perspective illusion of a curved space-time-continuum that is not real at all. This analog process feels different from working in my 3D-software where I can digitally manipulate rotate or twist the sculpture to my liking for as long as I care to do so. This is why these conceptual paintings are called “Instant Sculptures”. There is no changing or fidgeting around. They are how they are, frozen in time, but the dynamic draftsman`s gesture or painterly action or intuitive drive that brought these pieces to life can still be felt. The Berlin artist Peter Sandhaus never restricted himself to the classic arts alone but extended his artistic work to divers fields like computer generated art, sculptural architecture, production design and public space development. Both his large scale public art projects () and his paintings are dealing with the concept of a curved space-time continuum. Many of the two-dimensional works can be understood as sketches to generate notions of dynamic sculptures under tension. These four-dimensional configurations often appear to be still in motion and might even start to move again - when you are not looking..
